A Star, Ten Years in the Making

By - Kris Fletcher

On this day ten years ago, my life was forever changed.

Prior to June 27th of 2001, I was a hard headed, know-it-all little smart aleck without a care in the world. While for the most part all that still stands true, the one thing that has certainly changed is the whole, "without a care in the world" part. See, on that day, my oldest son was born.

Up until that moment, I'd never known what it meant to love someone 100% unconditionally with all my heart. Needless to say, once you go there, you're never the same.

I suppose I should get into what an amazing kid he is. How he has no faults. How everything he touches turns to gold. I know in doing so, I sound like every other parent gloating about their child. In this particular case though, it's all totally true.

He's the best big brother in the world. He's an honor student. He's a multiple time all-star. Furthermore, he seems to accomplish all these things with virtually little to no effort. All achieved in the span of just a decade. His very first decade at that.

I tell people all the time that I believe he's going to be someone important when he grows up. What exactly, I'm not sure, but something important nonetheless. I truly believe that. I don't just hope that's the case. I expect it. I guess that could be a heavy burden for him to carry in some peoples eyes, but when he's already achieved so much in his first ten years, it's hard to expect anything less.

I know this isn't the usual main stream type of thing we do on this site, but I just wanted to take the time to share all this with the masses. I'm sure the majority of folks reading this don't know who my son is, but you will one of these days. Trust me, you will.

Happy tenth birthday, littleman. I couldn't have asked for a better son. You never cease to amaze me, and I love you more than you'll ever know.

P.S. - Stop growing up so fast.

  1. Very few things in this world are as strong as the bound between father and son. Lucky boy to have a father that cares for him so much. Hope he had a nice birthday.
