The New York Giants Will Win Super Bowl XLVI

By - Todd Stepp

With the Super Bowl set to kickoff later this evening, it's time to dive into the main reasons why I think the New York Giants will be raising the Lombardi Trophy at the end of the night.

Here we go.

• Eli's on a roll

Let's face it, Eli sucked for a while, but now he's on a roll. The Giants are putting up 27 points a game in this season's playoffs. Plus, Victor Cruz looks likes Jerry Rice out there catching nearly every ball thrown his direction. Add Hakeem Nicks and Mario Manningham to the mix and you've got yourself a stacked offense. Sure, the Giants run game finished 32nd, but are you really going to tell me you wouldn't take the tandem of Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs in your backfield?

• The Giants defense can shut down Brady and company

During the previous matchup this season, the Giants held the Pats to just 20 points and got out of Foxboro with a win. Sure, Brady threw for 342 yards and 2 scores, but he also threw 2 picks, was sacked twice and fumbled. The Giants knocked down seven of Brady's passes and put three big hits on the future Hall of Fame QB. And if you want to talk about the Giants running game being poor, you have to mention how bad the Pats running game can be. In the previous matchup, BenJarvus Green-Ellis lead the Pats with 12 carries for 53 yards, and the Pats only put the ball in the end zone behind Brady's arm. Oh, and I nearly forgot to mention, the Giants defensive line is ridiculously good. They've totaled 48 sacks this year.

• The Patriots defense can be atrocious

Especially if you pair them against a solid QB. This season, the Pats played 3 good quarterbacks and they only won 2 of those games. Here's a list of the 13 QBs the Patriots beat this year, along with their stat lines:

Chad Henne (416 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT)
Philip Rivers (378 yards, 2 TDs, 2 INTs)
Jason Campbell (341 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT)
Mark Sanchez (166 yards, 2 TDs)
Tony Romo (317 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT)
Mark Sanchez (306 yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs)
Tyler Palko (230 yards, 3 INTs)
Vince Young (400 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT)
Dan Orlovsky (353 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT)
Rex Grossman (252 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT)
Tim Tebow (194 passing yards, 93 rushing yards, 2 rushing TDs)
Matt Moore (281 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT)
Ryan Fitzpatrick (307 yards, 2 TDs, 4 INTs)

If they can give up a 400 yard game to Vince Young, or a 353 yard game to third-stringer Dan Orlovsky, you can bet Eli will have a field day against their defense. New England hasn't played a good QB in the postseason yet, even though Joe Flacco made things very interesting in the AFC championship game, going over 300 yards and tossing 2 TDs. Sure, Vince Wilfork had the game of his life last week, and if he played with that intensity every week, my opinion might be different. But, the fact is, he doesn't.

For what it's worth, I think this will be a great game. However, all signs point to the G-Men bringing home another trophy.

  1. You make some good points Todd, but I just don't see the Giants denying Tom Brady this time. A win today and he probably goes down as the best quarterback of all-time. Pats win a close one.

  2. Tom Brady can't win the game all by himself. It's about match-ups, and the Patriots just don't match-up well against the Giants at all. Giants win it 24-17.

    1. The Patriots supposedly didn't "matchup" well with the Ravens either. How'd that one turn out?

  3. Everytime I pick against Brady he proves me wrong. I'm not making that mistake again. Patriots 20-17.
