RG3 Looks Impressive in Rookie Debut

Washington Redskins rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III looked extremely impressive in his regular season debut Sunday afternoon.

Showing nothing short of a veteran's composure, RG3 was 19 of 26 for 320 yards with 2 touchdowns -- and no interceptions, en route to a 40-32 win over the New Orleans Saints. He also had 10 rushes for 42 yards.

Just how good was Griffin? Only Cam Newton (422), Otto Graham (346), and Ed Rubbert (334) had better rookie debuts.

Aided by the Redskins debut of former Colts receiver Pierre Garcon, RG3 and the Washington offense kept the Saints on their heels the entire game, completing an average of 12 yards per pass for a passer rating of 139.9.

"Robert did a great job playing the way he did in his first game in the National Football League," Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said. "Both the poise that he played with and the throws that he made."

From the moment I saw this guy play for the first time last season while taking college football by storm all the way to a surprise Heisman win, I've thought that he had that "little something extra." In my opinion, he easily had the best rookie premiere this weekend, not to mention one of the overall better quarterback outings in general.

Expect to see many more games like this from RG3 in the future.

  1. I'm a big Griffin fan, and even I was surprised at how well he played. I know he'll have some bumps along the way, but if yesterday was a sign of things to come, look out NFL.

  2. Yeah, I totally agree. I think had it been, for instance the Browns, it may not be AS impressive. But this was the Saints, at the Superdome, where they went undefeated a year ago.

And a stat I failed to mention, he's now the first rookie QB to thrrow for more than 300 yards in his debut and throw no picks.
