Rashard Mendenhall Causes Uproar

By - Brian Harrington

I have never, nor will I ever, claim to be a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. I do like Rashard Mendenhall though. He's probably the only player on the team I do like. He got me some decent fantasy football points last year.

So, when I heard about this little controversy I decided I had to add my two cents.

Mendenhall took to Twitter the other day to voice his opinion about the "death" of Osama bin Laden, and is being chastised for it. He tweeted first, "What kind of person celebrates death? It's amazing how people can HATE a man they have never even heard speak. We've only heard one side," and then followed with, "We'll never know what really happened. I just have a hard time believing a plane could take a skyscraper down demolition style."

The second is my favorite because I absolutely, 100% AGREE with him. Now I'm not going to get on here and go off topic and start a political free for all. But I do feel like there are many more questions than answers about the events of that September morning and the official story in no way answers any of them. In fact, it only raises more.

Mendenhall did what we all have the right to do, speak our mind. And the last time I checked, our freedoms are what those men and women that serve our country across the world are fighting to protect.

  1. By saying "death", does that mean you don't believe the governments take on what happened man? Surely not... Lol

I agree though. The man is entitled to his opinion, and that right is EXACTLY what the people that serve this country are fighting for.

Only thing that irritates me is, he went back and deleted said tweet cause of the backlash he was getting...

  2. Heard about his tweets on sportscenter. I think the only thing he did wrong was go back and erase them. Its his right as an American to say how he feels. Personally I'm just glad we finally got Bin Laden after all these years. Too many people have died because of that man.

  3. Mendenhall should have known he would get ripped for his tweet. He picked the wrong subject at the wrong time to talk about. I'm not saying it's right that he's getting all this negative feedback, but I understand why he is. The tweet almost made him sound like a Bin Laden supporter.

  4. Way to big of a deal has been made about this whole thing.

  5. I totally agree Nick. And I also think it was grossly taken out of context, he simply worded it wrong. He wasn't supporting Bin Laden, he was saying that we looked just like the people over there after the attacks here. It makes up no better than them.
