Texas High School QB Has Monster Game

By - Brian Harrington

There are few things in this world bigger than football in the state of Texas, so the all-time record books must be long and distinguished. A few weeks ago, they were re-written.

QB Dylan Sheffield of Wichita Falls High School had a game for the ages. Throwing for an astounding 683 yards and 7 touchdowns, the last of which being an 81-yard game winner to WR Chance Garey with under a minute to go in a 53-49 win over Denton High. His 683 yards bested the previous mark of 634 yards, held by Richardson High QB Mac Morse in 2009, by 49 yards.

"We had confidence the whole game," Sheffield told the Times Record. "We didn't feel like we could be stopped, and even on that last drive, I knew we weren't going to lose. We felt like we could throw the ball, and we felt like we were going to score a lot of points. I thought it was going to come down to who got the ball last, and luckily we got it last."

Sheffield already held the Wichita Falls school record for passing yards in a game, but he broke his own mark with more than a quarter remaining. Incredibly, the Coyotes needed every single yard and touchdown Sheffield threw for to get the win.

"It's the craziest game I've ever been a part of," WFHS coach Jayson Lavender said following the victory. "These kids have a never-give-up attitude. They're a bunch of fighters, and they're never out of a game."

  4. Kid would be an ideal replacement for Tom Brady 6-7 years from now, seein' as he's ALREADY use to havin' to score a ton of points and throw for a ton of yards to bail his lousy defense out. Perfect fit in New England.

He needs to change his number though. Love him some Favre or what? Lol

  5. There's nothing wrong with liking Brett Favre. Not everyone worships Tom Brady like you do Kris. Nice post Brian.

  7. That's crazy. I'm sure he's going to have a free ride to pretty much any college he wants to go to. I'm sure we'll be hearing more about him in the future.

  8. Is there something wrong with liking Favre? (If that is in fact the reason he wears #4)

  9. Adam B. - Well what's worse, my "obsession" with Brady, or the fact that you're obviously obsessed with my supposed obsession with him?

T.J. - No, nothing wrong with liking him. If you're into the whole self-centered, I'm bigger than the entire team type.

  10. LOL @ Kris Fletcher's comment. As far as the actual post goes, sounds like the kid was throwing it all over the lot. Good for him.
