Q&A With NFL Newcomers: The LaMark Brown Interview

This week, I was able to get a hold of former Kansas State/Minnesota State wide receiver LaMark Brown, who signed as a free agent with the Atlanta Falcons following the draft.

Here's how the conversation went.

Q: What got you started playing football?

A: My mom signed me up to play with my cousin and I just stuck with it.

Q: What are your expectations going into your rookie season?

A: I just want to make the final roster and contribute to the team in anyway I can.

Q: What was your reaction after the Falcons offered you a contract, and were there any other teams interested in signing you?

A: I was excited the Falcons wanted me, and I knew it was a great opportunity with a great organization. And other teams were interested, but only in me coming to tryouts.

Q: If you weren't in the NFL, what would you be doing?

A: I'd be home in St. Louis working with Elite Football Academy, trying to get a better sense of how it's run so I could start another one up in a different city. I've trained there since I was a senior in high school and they do a great job of teaching the skill part of football.

Q: What is the primary position the Falcons want you to play? I've seen you listed as both a wide receiver and a tight end.

A: As of now I'm a tight end, so I'm just going to take it and run with it. But if the opportunity to move back to receiver presents itself somewhere down the line, I'd be happy to move back. I just want to help the team win some games.

Q: How do you think OTAs have gone so far?

A: I think they have went well so far. The team is just starting to get the new systems down, and us rookies are learning how to practice like pros and how to conduct ourselves on and off the field.

Q: What advice would you give a young player?

A: To try and out work your opponent everyday whether it's in the weight room, classroom, on the field or off the field, and take advantage of the opportunities that present themselves.

Q: What is your favorite all-time sports moment?

A: In high school when we beat our rivals for the first time in 13 years, in their homecoming game no less.

Q: Is there a past or present NFL player that you study to try and improve your game?

A: I study Michael Irvin, Andre Johnson, and Brandon Marshall, because they are guys that have the same body type and skills that I think I have. I try to pick things up from those guys and mold it all into my own style of play.

Q: Lastly -- growing up, who was your favorite player and favorite team to watch?

A: My favorite player was John Elway. I was a quarterback when I first started playing, and he was a guy I loved to watch play. I never really had a favorite team growing up, I was just always a fan of the players.
